Bells Ferry young authors, Kell play, Keheley means flowers and Sprayberry band provides them

Sprayberry Band of Gold carnation sale brings Valentine's love

Feb.12 was a busy day for members of the Sprayberry Band of Gold as they delivered more than 500 red and yellow carnations purchased by students. The band members made sure the carnations were in the hands of those they were intended for prior to the end of first period. The snow that day, combined the carnations, made Valentines, 2010, very special!

Keheley Elementary School

We would like to thank all of the amazing volunteers who came out to help spread mulch on the playground and flowerbeds at the front of the school
prior to our Christmas break. We could not have done it without each and one of you!!
Our organic garden project continues to be a huge success with your children at Keheley. In the Fall, the children brought home various veggies from our
harvest such as arugula, pak choi, kale, lettuces and radishes. Unfortunately, due to the recent frigid temperatures the broccoli did not survive. However,
the garden must grow on! We have plans for spring plantings to harvest just before school lets out for the summer months as well as summer plants that
we will be able to harvest next fall.
We have a wonderful beautification project coming up thanks to Cobb Trees. We will be setting time aside in late February for the children to help plant
shade trees around each playground! So, keep your eyes and ears open for great volunteer opportunities. And…Earth Day is only a hop skip and a jump
away! We have many exciting things happening thanks to Captain Planet and Farmer D Organics. This is an exciting time to get involved and learn alongside your children. If you are interested in volunteering with the PTA environmental team please contact Windy Thomas or Rebecca Causey.
Keheley is a member of the Play in the Dirt Club at Pike Nursery on Johnson Ferry Road. Please give them this number 224338 when you check out to help Keheley earn money toward future purchases for garden and beautification.

4-H plant sale taking pre-orders

Many residents support Cobb 4-H's annual plant sale to enhance their landscapes with perennials, azaleas and other plants and shrubs. With more focus on organic, pesticide-free food, there is an increased interest in growing fruits and vegetables. The sale offers a selection of blackberry, blueberry and raspberry plants that are appropriate for Cobb County. A small investment in berry bushes will provide the owner many years of fruit.

In addition to enjoying a beautiful landscape and fresh berries, plant sale purchases also support many local 4-H programs. Last year, scholarships were provided for 4-H'ers to attend summer camp and the overnight speech competition at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Transportation costs to county and state events were also subsidized. Plant sales also fund the Awards Banquet, an annual program that highlights and recognizes individual achievements and contributions to the community. 4-H was able to donate school supplies and holiday meals after last year's flood.

The organization's mission is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skill and forming attitudes to help them become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. Plant sale order forms are available at cobbextension.com or by calling 770-528-4076. Prepaid orders will be accepted until Wednesday, March 10.
