Bells Ferry Elementary School

The Bells Ferry Bandits started celebrating Valentine's Day early with a Valentine Social at school on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. The event was held in the cafeteria and featured a DJ, dancing and favorite snacks! It was well attended and a great time was had by everyone. The purpose of the event was to promote friendship between and among students. Social skills are important in any school setting. The Valentine's Social seemed to be a perfect outlet to help foster the growth of friendship skills. The Valentine Social is an annual event and is always anticipated with great excitement.
Happy Valentine's Day to all from the Bells Ferry Bandits!

We're fundraising and recycling for a great cause - childhood cancer! Please send your used printer cartridges & toner, cell phones, digital cameras, PDAs and MP3 Players to the media center to be recycled. All of these items are accepted in working or nonworking condition. The environment benefits by keeping toxins out of our ground water and air, CURE Childhood Cancer benefits with funding and public awareness, and Keheley benefits from the funds raised. Everybody wins! Thanks for your support.

4-H plant sale taking pre-orders
Many residents support Cobb 4-H's annual plant sale to enhance their landscapes with perennials, azaleas and other plants and shrubs. With more focus on organic, pesticide-free food, there is an increased interest in growing fruits and vegetables. The sale offers a selection of blackberry, blueberry and raspberry plants that are appropriate for Cobb County. A small investment in berry bushes will provide the owner many years of fruit.

In addition to enjoying a beautiful landscape and fresh berries, plant sale purchases also support many local 4-H programs. Last year, scholarships were provided for 4-H'ers to attend summer camp and the overnight speech competition at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Transportation costs to county and state events were also subsidized. Plant sales also fund the Awards Banquet, an annual program that highlights and recognizes individual achievements and contributions to the community. 4-H was able to donate school supplies and holiday meals after last year's flood.

The organization's mission is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skill and forming attitudes to help them become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. Plant sale order forms are available at
cobbextension.com or by calling 770-528-4076. Prepaid orders will be accepted until Wednesday, March 10.
