Just in time for Valentines Day, Northeast Cobb resident Chef Jeffrey McGar will begin writing restaurant recommendations and reviews for the Northeast Cobb Monitor.com in the upcoming Feb. 3 edition. ![]() Chef Jeffrey McGar Chef McGar, president of Food for Thought Consulting, brings to the table more than 20 years of restaurant and industry experience. He started his career in small, family owned and operated restaurants and casual dining facilities in upstate New York. He moved to Atlanta in 1997, initially landing a job as a restaurant manager. After working almost every position in various restaurant settings, Chef McGar decided to pursue his dream of becoming a chef. In the same time period, he married his wife, Wendy. The couple have resided in Northeast Cobb since 1997 and have a three-year-old son. In 2000, Chef McGar began his culinary training in Atlanta at one of the top-5 prestigious country clubs in the country, award winning Cherokee Town & Country Club. There he worked under certified master chefs honing his skills and finally graduating to the executive sous chef of the Town Club. He has spent the last four years as the executive chef at the Atlanta Event’s Center at Opera located in midtown, easily executing multiple special events with over 1500 guests for parties ranging from trendy,high profile events to the classic,conservative and traditional, ultimately feeding over 50,000 guests. Now he will put his knowledge of the restaurant industry to work for Northeast Cobb residents looking for a great place to dine.This will include family-oriented establishments to fine dining. "Great food and overall dining experience is what I want to give to you, the reader, and hope that you’ll share in my excitement by experiencing the restaurant for yourself,” said Chef McGar. I'’m excited about sharing my food experiences with my neighbors. Ultimately, my goal is to show support for the local restaurant and dining community by joining the two together."
